New Zealand Bridleways

The NZ Bridleways website provides information for riders about public recreational riding areas, from a single location.  This is being extended to all regions of the country, and we hope that we will get plenty of local support to add to the information we have gathered.

Horse Sense on the Roads

Horse Sense on the Roads is more than simply creating a website.  This project was about raising the profile of horse rider safety and also involved media releases to highlight road safety over the busy Xmas\New Year period.  We successfully published press releases with photos into many regional and local community newspapers,  and will continue to do so throughout the year.

We also plan to work with road safety organisations to gain recognition that roads need to be safe for horses, and hopefully to gain funding for signage, bumper stickers and pamphlets to keep the issue in the public eye.

Ongoing Goals and Projects

Submissions

Making submissions to local, regional and central government is now a big part of this group's role.  For more information on the submissions we have made click here

Research

Research into and about the horse industry and community is sorely lacking in New Zealand.   One of our goals is to improve this situation by finding existing research and statistics, and making it available for use in submissions or publications. For more information click here

Media and Public Profile Improvement

Increasing the public profile of recreational horse riders and horse sports is high on our list of goals.  There are many issues that need addressing, and as a community we need to be more proactive about educating the general non-horse community about horses.  If we continue to separate ourselves from the rest of the community and other sports, we will continue to have reduced access to public funds and community goodwill.  For more information on Media Releases and coverage click here
